These workshops will offer you a practical perspective on topics related to labor mobility, ethical recruitment, and legal frameworks.

Directed to member organizations of RRCOM, civil society, academia, and actors involved in labor mobility who wish to strengthen knowledge and create networks with colleagues from Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

General Objective

Strengthen the capacities of key actors that make up the RROCM and its strategic allies, through virtual training processes and technical tools that contribute to the formulation, monitoring, and advocacy of public policies on ethical recruitment of migrant persons in Central America, based on the human rights approach and international commitments.

Specific Objectives

Share theoretical and practical knowledge about regular labor migration, national and international legal frameworks, and ethical recruitment standards, to promote more just and effective public policies in the region.

Introduce basic conceptual and methodological tools to identify gaps, risks, and opportunities in regulatory frameworks and existing programs related to labor migration and ethical recruitment, from a human rights perspective.

Provide inputs with a regional guide of recommendations for the formulation of public policies on ethical recruitment, which serves as an advocacy instrument for organizations, decision-makers, and civil society actors.

Dates: Each session will be held on Tuesdays each week from September 2 to 23

Schedule: 10:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Guatemala time (GMT-6) / 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Panama and the Caribbean (GMT-5)

The topics to be developed are:

September 2: Introduction to Labor Mobility and Ethical Recruitment and International Legal Framework for Ethical Recruitment.

September 9: Guatemalan Legislation on Recruitment of Migrant Workers and Certified Models of Ethical Recruitment.

September 16 and 23: Regular Labor Migration - Temporary Work Programs in H-2A (agricultural) and H-2B (non-agricultural) Visas: process, requirements, labor rights. Procedures for obtaining an H-2 visa, Rights and protections of H-2 workers. Legal support for H-2 workers.

Upon completing these workshops, you will have knowledge about labor mobility and ethical recruitment from the international framework to Guatemalan legislation, the certified models that guarantee transparency and protection, delve deeper into H-2A and H-2B visa programs with their processes, requirements, rights and legal support, as well as access practical tools that drive the defense of rights and the creation of regional networks; all of this in a space for exchange that favors the construction of collective strategies for fair, safe, and orderly labor migration.
